Why Dive Curaçao?

Curaçao was once again voted as a Top 10 Caribbean Diving Destination in Scuba Diving Magazine’s 2023 Readers Choice Awards that ranks the World’s Best Diving!

Largest of the ABC (including Aruba and Bonaire) Islands, Curaçao is home to some of the most bio-diverse reefs in the Caribbean.  The sheltered southern coast is rich in coral, and suitable for divers of all levels, with little in the way of adverse conditions (situated on the outer fringes of the Hurricane Belt) at any of the popular dive sites.  Divers and snorkelers never seem to be able to stop talking about the beauty of scuba diving Curacao.  Let us assure you this is with good reason.

In addition, Curaçao is home to more than 35 captivating beaches, a diverse heritage spanning 55 different cultures, ‘live and let live’ attitude and unrivaled European architecture. Curaçao remains as one of the most exceptional islands in the Caribbean region and it is most certainly the heart of the Dutch Caribbean.

One of the main reasons to visit the capital city of Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is of course the iconic colorful Handelskade backdrop. Additionally, the roster of museums, monuments, flavorful restaurants and shopping is endless too.

Further accolades have won Curaçao tremendous recognition for its natural beauty, world class diving, and the pristine snorkeling sites that are favorites with divers and adventure seekers.

According to USA TODAY: “Scuba Diving in Curacao is the number one thing to DO”

There are plenty of things to do in Curacao and no right way to experience any of them. All travelers are free to create their own experiences on this beautiful Dutch Caribbean island while embracing our authentic, unforgettable spirit.

Scuba Diving the Wrecks in Curaçao

As Canadian scuba divers, we love scuba diving or snorkeling around shipwrecks. Right? It’s true! As a expat Canadian diver, I must admit that I do miss diving in Canada’s Great Lakes, Tobermory and even in the St. Lawrence Seaway. There was nothing close to that feeling, while donning my drysuit, of speculation and an excited fascination of what you could see or even find while diving on some of the best wrecks in the world.  Wrecks like the Forest City in Tobermory or even the Roy A. Jodery in the St. Lawrence because wrecks are simply cool plus they also offer nature new habitats as incredible artificial reefs sites.

Here in Curacao, the variety and the depth of the wrecks to snorkel or to dive is also quite vast.  Not only is there shipwrecks to explore, but there are also cars, trucks, and even airplanes!

In fact – whether you are a snorkeler, a recreational or advanced diver, a technical diver, or just a land lover interested in wrecks – there are wrecks in Curaçao for everyone to discover that even includes a deep exploration dive in a mini-submarine.

1% of Dive Travel Curaçao’s net annual proceeds are donated to Reef Renewal Curaçao so they can re-invest it in restoring corals for the future of Curaçao.
