The Wall at Blue Bay Curaçao

Blue Bay Wall is located at Blue Bay Curaçao – Golf Club and Beach Resort. Here you can enjoy the house reef, ‘The Wall‘ and ‘The Garden’ where you will be impressed by turtles, barracudas and numerous other fish species.

The drop-off is very close to the shore so you don’t need a long swim out. The slope is very gradual. In front of the beach there is not so much coral. Your best choice of direction is going to the right if the current permits.

After about 5 minutes the coral density increased although there are still many patches of sand between the coral. After about 15 minutes the coral density increases further to almost 100%. There are many kinds of corals and sponges. At a leisure pace you reach Blue Bay Wall in about 25 minutes.

This is a vertical wall from about 10 meters till below 30 meters that is very impressive and worthwhile to explore. So it is better to have a higher pace at a moderate depth when you are interested in Blue Bay Wall. In this way you will reach the wall sooner and you have more bottom time if you want to explore the part below 25 meters.

On the return leg of the dive there is a lot of soft coral and there are large sea fans at a depth of 10 to 15 meters.

Diving at Blue Bay Beach Curaçao

Since 2005 the beach is open for the general public for a fee. If you go for just a dive and have no intention to spend the rest of the day on the beach you pay a smaller fee, but you must check in with the onsite dive operator, Blue Bay Dive and Watersports.

At Blue Bay Beach you will find the Dive & Beach Store. The shop offers bathing suits, beach products, as well as diving and snorkeling gear (also for rent). The fully certified dive shop is 5-star PADI IDC Center that offers almost all PADI courses where you can start as a beginner in the ‘open water course’, or explore yet new possibilities as an experienced diver by taking specialty, technical or professional courses.

If diving is new to you, you may enroll in an ‘introduction-dive’ and be able to explore the beautiful underwater world. Kids may participate in a ‘bubble maker course’.

If you don’t want to scuba dive, you may still enjoy the wonders of the ocean beneath the surface. Just a pair of diving glasses and a snorkel you will be amazed by the variety of the underwater life, even within the sheltered bay area. Snorkel sets are for hire at the dive shop.

Location of Blue Bay Wall

Plantation History

Understandably, many think that the name of Blue Bay Curaçao was chosen because of the striking blue water in the bay. The truth is that this beautiful part of Curaçao was already named ‘Blaauwbaai’, after Anno Blaauw, the owner at the time. He grew limes, oranges and – to make the name even more appropriate – the blue pigment indigo.

Over the years, the plantation has had its share of different owners. In 1800, it was occupied and plundered by French pirates. In the 20th century, it became the property of the Jacobs family, who used it as a farm. During the Second World War, American soldiers manned cannons at Blue Bay to shoot at German submarines.

The master plan of Blue Bay Resort dates back to 1990, when a local development group purchased the plantation from the Jacobs family and built the first infrastructure. In 1997, developer Steve Raspoort saw the area’s enormous potential. Step by step, he established a thriving resort and golf course. Steve Raspoort passed away in 2007, but his family continued realizing his dream to create a welcoming place where life is enjoyed to the fullest. Blue Bay has since grown to become a household name on Curaçao and in the Caribbean.
