About Blue Bay Curaçao

Blue Bay (Dutch: Blauwbaai) Beach is one of the most beloved beaches on the Caribbean island of Curaçao. It is located close to the fishermen’s village of Sint-Michiel (Boca Sami), north-west of Willemstad. The beach is named after a plantation “Blaauw” that was located nearby.

At Blue Bay Curacao – Golf and Beach Resort, you will find several restaurants at the beach and the golf course. This beautiful beach is a popular destination for sun worshipers but also an incredible launching area for some of the best snorkeling and shore diving on Curaçao because just offshore is an impressive coral reef, lauded by scuba divers and snorkelers for its easy accessibility. Swim five minutes from the beach and you will start to see multi colored coral and tropical fish.

Enjoy life at Blue Bay Beach, a unique place where Curacao is at its best. Find peace of mind by the clear Caribbean Sea and relax on the spacious beach in the shade of a gently rustling palm tree or play golf on a challenging and attractive course.

At Blue Bay you can experience the comfort of luxury accommodations, eat at excellent and inviting restaurants or dive, snorkel, play tennis, hike, work out, sail, kayak, or dance in the sand during the daily happy hours while watching incredible sunsets.

Bottom line is that you can blissfully engage in a multitude of activities or do absolutely nothing, while your kids are having a fun time at the Kids Club.

Traveler Tip: Visit the Blend Beach Bar at Blue Bay Beach! This spacious, newly remodeled bar in bohemian style is the ‘heart of the beach’, with delicious cocktails, refreshing drinks and tasty snacks. This is the place to meet up, chill and enjoy the great music.

History of the Plantation

Understandably, many think that the name of Blue Bay Curaçao was chosen because of the striking blue water in the bay. The truth is that this beautiful part of Curaçao was already named ‘Blaauwbaai’, after Anno Blaauw, the owner at the time. He grew limes, oranges and – to make the name even more appropriate – the blue pigment indigo.

Over the years, the plantation has had its share of different owners. In 1800, it was occupied and plundered by French pirates. In the 20th century, it became the property of the Jacobs family, who used it as a farm. During the Second World War, American soldiers manned cannons at Blue Bay to shoot at German submarines.

The master plan of Blue Bay Resort dates back to 1990, when a local development group purchased the plantation from the Jacobs family and built the first infrastructure. In 1997, developer Steve Raspoort saw the area’s enormous potential. Step by step, he established a thriving resort and golf course. Steve Raspoort passed away in 2007, but his family continued realizing his dream to create a welcoming place where life is enjoyed to the fullest. Blue Bay has since grown to become a household name on Curaçao and in the Caribbean.
