Scuba Diving in Curacao
The Dutch Caribbean island nation of Curacao is a world class dive and vacation destination and home to some of the best scuba diving, and snorkeling sites, anywhere in the Caribbean. But, from a North American perspective at least, Curaçao has largely stayed off the radar over the years and has been overshadowed by Bonaire especially because of the well advertised shore diving.
The truth is that Curaçao’s claim to fame, aside from Blue Curaçao – the islands famous liqueur, is the colorful colonial waterfront in Willemstad.
What most people don’t realize is that there is also a rainbow of marine life that includes vibrant, yet diverse, coral colonies too – right below the islands waterline.
In fact, for those who have discovered Curacao, divers and snorkelers can never stop talking about the diving or the snorkeling.
Let us assure you this is with good reason!
Boat Diving Adventures
Of the island’s 70 dive sites you’ll be hard-pressed to find a bad one. From an abundance of sea turtles to some of the most vibrant coral you’ll find anywhere in the world, to wrecks both deep and shallow, there’s something for everyone to experience here.
Regardless of where you choose to stay, the decision should not be to dive either East or West, the decision should be to discover all of Curaçao (warning: many attempts may be necessary but easier now using the Curacao Dive Guide) to truly uncover the magic that lies below the waterline. Because there is a depth to our Dutch Caribbean island that you really do need to feel for yourself.
Unlimited Shore Diving Adventures
In a sport where you often must charter a boat to see the best of the underwater world, Curacao is a unique shore diving haven for divers looking to take the advantage of a more leisurely schedule.
On the south side of the island, the fringing reef in most cases is within 60-feet (20m) from the shoreline which leads to incredible drop offs that allow divers to venture a little bit deeper into the aquatic wonderland. Of the seventy popular dive sites the island has available, over half of them are reachable from the shore, and nearly all these shore dive sites are clearly marked along the road way.
Freediving in Curacao
If you think freediving is just like snorkeling (but going really deep) – think again. Freediving is an entirely different way to experience the underwater world. You’ll dive deeper, stay down longer, and feel part of the ocean itself.
So, have you ever thought about learning how to Freedive? Are you interested in learning more about one of the oldest forms of diving that has been practiced for centuries?
Then consider visiting B Diving and Watersports at Cas Abou in Curacao to start discovering more about this art of breath-holding from the Freedive Center Curaçao.
Diving for a Purpose in Curacao
Are you wanting to make a difference and truly “Dive for a Purpose”? Whether you are a resident of Curacao or a visiting scuba diver, we invite you to immerse yourself and to create a lasting impression for future generations by “Diving for a Purpose” with Reef Renewal Curaçao!
Why? Because ultimately, if everyone works together to protect what we love it will lead to greater efficiencies in recovery and achieve long term sustainability for our coral reefs and marine habitats here in Curaçao.
Snorkeling Trips and Tours
For snorkelers, one of the most popular spots is the famous sunken tugboat of Caracasbaai located in only 5 meters (15-feet) of water or the breathtaking Blue Room near Santa Cruz.
Another essential experience for divers and snorkelers alike is a boat trip to Klein Curaçao where you can explore healthy hard and soft corals, not to mention lots of other marine life.
About one-third of the southern coast of Curaçao is Curaçao Underwater Marine Park, a protected marine park, with a couple of wrecks, wall diving, and more. Curaçao is the perfect place for every level of snorkelers at all ages to explore the easily accessible, and abundant, marine life found in these crystal-clear waters.
