Atlantis Coral Garden
Atlantis Diving Curaçao House Reef
This is a divesite East from the city. It is not a beach, it is at a narrow stretch of open coast line with a rocky shore. At the end of a short street is the location of the house reef of Atlantis Diving. The drop-off is, like most dive sites, close to the shore and breakers, at the left hand side, shield you from the waves when entering the water.
Just a short swim from shore brings you at the drop off. The drop-off is quite steep with lesser amount of corals and with this site it is recommended to stay shallow and enjoy the high coral cover on the platau. The coral density on the right is higher and the coral itself looks healthy. There are colonies of pillar coral to be seen. Search for seahorses between the soft coral and to your right you’ll find an impressive elkhorn coral formation.
From the entry to the left, is a sandy platform where the new Coral Restoration Foundation Curacao nursery can be found. The main objectives of this program are the restoration of our shallow water reef system, educating the community and protecting and preserving Curaçao’s natural ecosystems.
"The significance of the Curacao Reef Restoration Program is that together as a community here on Curacao, we will be restoring our shallow water reef system while educating our youth about the importance of protecting and preserving our natural ecosystem"
