Blue Bay (Dutch: Blauwbaai) is one of the most beloved beaches on the Caribbean island of Curaçao, located close to the fishermen’s village of Sint-Michiel (Boca Sami) to the north-west of Willemstad. The beach is named after a plantation “Blaauw” that was located nearby.
At Blue Bay Curacao – Golf and Beach Resort, you will find several restaurants at the beach and the golf course. This beautiful beach is a popular destination for sun worshipers but also an incredible launching area for some of the best snorkeling and shore diving on Curaçao because just offshore is an impressive coral reef, lauded by scuba divers and snorkelers for its easy accessibility. Swim five minutes from the beach and you will start to see multi colored coral and tropical fish.
Another 15 minutes out and you’ll encounter a coral density of 100 percent — meaning the coral covers the entire ocean floor — plus sponges and sea fans galore.
Below the waves, Blue Bay is just as attractive where you can learn to scuba dive, freedive or snorkel at Blue Bay Dive and Watersports, a PADI 5 Star IDC Center.
Feel like a fun shore or boat dive, then be prepared for colorful fish, beautiful corals and an endless blue space surrounding you. An intense feeling of freedom. Scuba diving in the Caribbean Sea is a superb experience and there is no better place to explore this underwater world than at Blue Bay Dive and Watersports.
Whether you are a beginner or highly experienced, Blue Bay Dive and Watersports are at your service with our friendly staff and our focus is on safety and fun.

At Blue Bay you can experience the comfort of luxury accommodations, eat at excellent and inviting restaurants or dive, snorkel, play tennis, hike, work out, sail, kayak, or dance in the sand during the daily happy hours while watching incredible sunsets. Bottom line is that you can blissfully engage in a multitude of activities or do absolutely nothing, while your kids are having a fun time at the Kids Club.
Understandably, many think that the name was chosen because of the striking blue water in the bay. The truth is that this beautiful part of Curaçao was already named ‘Blaauwbaai’, after Anno Blaauw, the owner at the time. He grew limes, oranges and – to make the name even more appropriate – the blue pigment indigo.
Over the years, the plantation has had its share of different owners. In 1800, it was occupied and plundered by French pirates. In the 20th century, it became the property of the Jacobs family, who used it as a farm. During the Second World War, American soldiers manned cannons at Blue Bay to shoot at German submarines.
The master plan of Blue Bay Resort dates back to 1990, when a local development group purchased the plantation from the Jacobs family and built the first infrastructure. In 1997, developer Steve Raspoort saw the area’s enormous potential. Step by step, he established a thriving resort and golf course. Steve Raspoort passed away in 2007, but his family continued realizing his dream to create a welcoming place where life is enjoyed to the fullest. Blue Bay has since grown to become a household name on Curaçao and in the Caribbean.
