Vaersenbaai Car Wrecks

Vaersenbaai Car Wrecks at Kokomo Beach

Discover the Vaersenbaai Car Wrecks, located east of the the house reef at Kokomo Beach Curacao.

This is popular diving spot with lots of vehicles and a few shipwrecks for more advanced and experienced scuba divers. Amazingly, these vehicles were deliberately placed on the ocean floor as part of a project to try and provide a habitat for the fish and plants which used to be found on the coral reef in the area.

Although much of the coral has been destroyed, these trucks and cars have made an excellent artificial reef and has become an adequate replacement to encourage flora and fauna to return to Curacao.

The Vaersenbaai Car Wrecks is a fun deep shore or boat dive site that has of dozens of car wrecks! It is a great spot to take some unique souvenir photos plus it is a wonderful spot to have a beach day.

About Kokomo Beach at Vaersenbaai

Kokomo Beach Curacao is a full service beach that includes a dive shop, restaurant, bar, public restrooms and showers plus the house reef is an easily accessible shore dive or snorkeling site.

This is one of the most ideal beaches in Curacao to enjoy a quiet day with the whole family, have a great lunch, try one of their delicious cocktails or just fall in love with the crystal clear water!!

There are beach lounge chairs so you can relax, read a book, or just hang out with an ice-cold beer! Kokomo Beach has no entrance-fee and they probably have the best beach chairs on the island.

Hiking Tip: For a short, but beautiful, cliff hike you can follow a trail along the cliffs of Vaersenbaai that will lead either to Boca Sami or to Kokomo Beach depending on your starting point.

According to Curacao for 91 Days, this hike is “A short, mildly strenuous walk through the woods, followed by incredible views from high above the Caribbean, and then cooling off in clear blue waters? Sigh, if only all our hikes were like this!”
