Shipwreck Point
Shipwreck Point at the Curacao Sea Aquarium
Shipwreck Point is located between Cornelius Bay and the Stella Maris dive sites. This is deep dive site with the wrecks of two tugs at a depth of 50 meters.
In 1884 the SS Oranje Nassau, a trading ship of the West India Company, also perished at this location. Only the kettle of the wreck is left, it lies between the LionsDive Beach Resort and the Curaçao Sea Aquarium.
Shipwreck Point is considered a boat dive largely because their is no access to far easterly point. However, Ocean Encounters at LionsDive Beach Resort or Sunscape Curacao does have this site on their regular boat dive schedule.
From shore, without a significant surface swim, you can access the south western section of this beautiful fringing reef from the beach at Hemingway’s Beach Bar and Restaurant at LionsDive Beach Resort.
Traveler Tip: If you are a non-diver or just a passionate ocean lover that wants to share an underwater experience without getting wet, then you should visit the Ocean Lens at the Curaçao Sea Aquarium! It is “The ultimate peek into the deep!” where you lie down on comfortable cushions and observe a magnificent abundance of colors and fish before you. Trust us, there is never a dull moment down there! Visit Ocean Lens for more information.
Apart from the SS Oranje Nassau boiler in the bay, there are two anchors and a screw located on the reef between 20 and 35 meters. The two tugboats at 50 meters make this dive site also interesting for technical divers.
This is like diving inside an Aquarium! Oddly enough, this incredible fringing reef is the house reef of the Curaçao Sea Aquarium and it is one of the healthiest reefs around Curacao. And it’s all because it’s located at a point, with loads of fresh salt water and currents are constantly merging. At the mooring, divers will find anchors, a shaft and propellers.
This site also is home to Open Water Dolphin Dives with Ocean Encounters Diving and the Curasub! The Curasub is a 5 person deep sea submersible from Substation Curaçao which is capable of descending on a 1000 foot or 300 meter exploration dive… now that is a bucket list experience!

Curacao Sea Aquarium: Established in 1984
Back in the early 1980s, Adrian “Dutch” Schrier dreamed of bringing his passion for the sea closer to the general public in Curaçao. He was aware that the beauty and health of the sea surrounding our island would not last forever if the public was not educated about its vital importance to us all.
This led him to found the Curaçao Sea Aquarium in 1984, which grew into the most unique spot for visiting tourists and residents alike.
