Reef Renewal Curacao (formerly Coral Restoration Curacao) partners with Dive Center Scuba Do.
A new coral nursery consisting of 6 coral trees has been installed at Dive Center Scuba Do’s house reef located at Jan Thiel Bay. This coral nursery will hold 360 coral fragments, providing optimum conditions for these corals to grow and mature. The Dive Center Scuba Do staff in partnership with RRC will maintain these fragments for the purpose of out planting them onto the reef surrounding the nursery. These out planted corals will not only improve the health of the reef, but also increase the local fish populations for the area.
“We are really excited that Dive Center Scuba Do has embraced coral restoration and is now investing in the valuable work we’re doing” said Katie Leeper, RRI Coordinator. “Not only are we able to increase the amount of corals that are being restored back to the reef, but we are also able to educate more tourists and members of the public about the benefit of healthy coral reef systems. Awareness of the work we do is incredibly important, and we’re really pleased that Dive Center Scuba Do is involved!”

About the Reef Renewal Curacao
Reef Renewal Curacao (formerly known as Coral Restoration Curaçao) set-up in 2015 is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the shallow water coral reef systems in Curaçao and educating the community on the significance of the oceans.
They work with critically endangered species of corals, growing them in nurseries and out planting them onto new sites. To date CRC has out planted over 7300 corals to 7 locations and engaged more than 150 students.
None of this work would be possible without the sponsorship from Maduro & Curiel’s Bank (MCB), Ocean Encounters, Scubacao, Avila Beach Hotel, Baoase Luxury Resort, Kontiki Beach Resort and LionsDive Beach Resort.
UPDATE: November 2020 – due to the negative economic impact that Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has created in Curaçao – limited assets and resources were available that made it impossible to properly care for the nursery located in Jan Thiel Bay. Therefore and regrettably, the nurseries were relocated and amalgamated with the main nurseries of Reef Renewal Curacao that are located at the Stella Maris dive site – the house reef of LionsDive Beach Resort and Ocean Encounters.
